IMG_0651.jpg
This picture greatly reflects on what I have learned in the digital imagery course so far. Now, I always think of what I am capturing and how I am taking the photo rather than just snapping and clicking the button. I realized that as a photographer, it is important to be aware of exactly how you are taking the picture and think of all the techniques possible to make sure the outcome is more unique and eye-catching. For example, in this photo I used the compositional techniques "The Rule of Thirds", "Leading Line" and "Point of View" to make it more interesting to look at. The Rule of Thirds puts emphasis on the footsteps on the trail which illustrates the leading line. Also, point of view in this image is important because I took it from a higher dune a few meters away, so the lens is looking downwards and the people look smaller, which is better than taking it from the same level and very close up. The small people also put more emphasis on the beautiful scenery of the picture.

Photoshop Unit - Recreating Reality (Culture Clash Project)

JustineCultureClash.jpg
For the culture clash project, I decided to Photoshop my Bai Xin Zhuang Village pictures to a random church street in America. The images from the Village assimilated in an American setting shows the juxtaposition between the two cultures. On the left, there is a man with his little daughter with surprised facial expressions, which signifies the culture shock they are in. Furthermore, there is a huge contrast between mode of transportation between the Village and America. On the left, there is a Chinese lady riding a bicycle, and on the right many cars are evident. The billboard was replaced with a Chinese Propaganda sign which I passed by at the Village. There is a lady on the right who is spreading corn which is something done annually in the Chinese culture. There is a mother and her daughter with nice clothes which show that the mom is going to work and the daughter is going to school. At the back you can see the Church in Yarmouth, which I incorporated into my project to mix up all the different cultures. Also, you can see that there are blue skies in this image; something that you do not generally see in Beijing because of the pollution.
